This is our ABC assignment. I took my pictures as I walked around the lake and I like how it ties all the photos together. I also like the contrast in the photos because they are all so vibrant. It was a little difficult to find all the letters but I liked how it all turned out. In some of the photos I used some different filters which I like a lot because it adds originality.

This is a picture of two flowers that my mom had in the house. I placed them in the water of the lake that I live on. I played around with the angles that I took of this photo. I also put a photo filter on top of it to help bring out the colors. I boosted the colors even more in iPhoto. I also blurred the edges so that your eye goes to the flowers. I really like the composition of this piece.

The Three Fates symbolize the spinning of life, the measuring of life, and the cutting of life. I like these ones much better.
Danielle created this picture for the myth assessment.

Athena: The greek goddess of wisdom and war. The sword and her stance is to represent the warrior in her. Yet her gentle face shows the wisdom and to not fear her. I like how the red is the main color popping out of the brown.

PERSEPHONE: Daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She was the goddess of spring bounty, but was taken to the underworld by Haides, and captured. She had eaten Haides pomegranate seeds which forced her to stay in the underworld for part of the year which marks the time of winter when the bountiful plants die down, but come back when spring is in season when Persephone returns from the underoworld.

Aurora, goddess of the dawn, renews herself every morning and flies across the sky, announcing the arrival of the sun.

OSIRIS WAS DROWNED, AND CUT INTO 14 PIECES BY HIS BROTHER. HIS PIECES WERE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT EGYPT AND FOUND BY HIS WIFE/SISTER ISIS.
ISIS BROUGHT ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER AND SOON REVIVED OSIRIS.

ISIS WAS IMPREGNATED WITH OSIRIS' SON, HORUS- GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD, BUT TAUGHT ABOUT AGRICULTURE.

THIS PHOTO IS INTENDED TO REPRESENT THE MOMENT IN WHICH OSIRIS WAS REVIVED BY ISIS
AND IS RISING AGAIN, AFTER ALL PIECES WERE PUT TOGETHER.

Morgan took this night photo.
This is my night photo and I also took it at the barn near my house. I originally wanted to have Kristen outlined with the light but the person holding the light messed up and just made the design above. I think it turned out better than the others and made a cooler effect.

For this picture I left my shutter open for 30 seconds. I ran around him with a light and tried to get it to shine on the ground. In photoshop I also brought up the blue. I wanted it to look like something is "coming" for him.
Thanks Paige.

This picture is of my friend Ellie hanging from a bridge over a river. The environment doesn't exactly pertain to WHERE she is but HOW she is. She is a lot of fun and super adventurous.
Thanks Victoria.

This is my environmental portrait of my friend Hannah. I put her outside because she loves being outside with others and loves her dog. I crop the picture a little and burned the garage because it was to bright. I really love how this picture turned out.

This is the only picture that was actually picked for the IB art show, but I still love this one the most, and if I could have picked between me getting one amazing shot like this, or three okay ones to be picked for the IB show, I would gladly pick this one.
Mooney said that the lighting would be different because of her darker skin, and I think I compensated for that. This is by FAR the favorite portrait I have taken of a non-family member, and I hope over the course of this class, I can learn how to get that one amazing shot (or more than one) out of anyone I photograph.

This represents the goddess of Night, Nyx. This is my mom, and I had her sit by the rocks and set the long exposure on my camera to 30 seconds. I like it a lot because the stars really stand out and you can tell it's Night but it's also light out and you can see "nyx's face." I had her gaze up at the sky because it looks like she's observing the night sky, as she brought it on.

During class we have to pick groups and then pick a person that you wanted to take a picture of. I choose Kayla because I love the way that she smiles. So that is what I tried to show in this picture. I want to show her bubbly personality. I changed this photo into black and white and then played around with the brightness and contracts. I really loved how this photo turned out in the end.

This is a picture that I took at the Lac La Belle Cemetery. I did the lomo effect to it and I thought it originally looked cool because it was kind of scratchy and blurry and it gave it a more errie look to the photo. I also clone stamped out a tree behind him because it was pretty distracting. My myth was Hypnos and it was the god of sleep and he tried to save people in there after life so I thought this picture worked perfectly.
Photograph by Breanna.

My myth was Antigone. She has had a stressful life and I tried to make the model in this picture look stressed. Antigone's father married his own mother and she finds out and ends up killing herself.
Photograph by Stephanie.

4/4/10

My myth was Alcyone and Ceyx. Alcyone's father Aeolus is the God of winds, and Ceyx went out on a voyage to talk to an Oracle about his dead brother. Alycone knew that her father didn't like Ceyx and that he was going to try to kill Ceyx while he was out at sea. Alcyone couldn't convince him to stay, so she waited and waited for him to return. He never did. So, to represent this story I took a picture of a small waterfall with a girl looking out over the bridge in the reflection to represent Alcyone waiting for Ceyx.
Photograph by Emily.

4/3/10

This photograph was taken in California and it demonstrates how the girl is simply taking in the nature that is around her. I like that even though she is the focal point in the photo the details in the rocks and in the hills in the background are still present. I slightly lightened up the sky so it would not be as bright, but kept it a brighter color because it made her stand out more.

And here is Ms Sarah (photographed by Jessica).
During class, we had studio time and took pictures of each other. To portray sarah as a nerd, I gave her some nerd glasses and a book. I brightened the picture in photoshop and added some contrast. The picture was also changed to a custom black and white in Photoshop.

3/29/10

Sarah took this picture of the lovely Victoria.

Apollo is the god of light or the sun. He is also the patron god of arts and is personified as the "perfect man." Apollo was also supposedly the first to win a gold metal in the olympic games. (I think this is ironic since Apolo Ohno is the most decorated winter olypian)

To make this photograph I set set up a flash light in a completely dark room and took a picture of someone's hand. Then in photoshop I made the picture black and white and did made "sunrays from scratch." (This is explained in my Rays picture)

Lindsy's myth.

3/26/10

The myth of Tantalus is about a man who was banished to Hades and he had to live the rest of his life in water up to his chin. There was fruits above him on branches as well and when ever he tried to drink the water or eat the fruits they would recede away from him. For this photo, I had Vanessa behind a wire fence to show her trapped and not being able to get out to reach her desires. I blurred the background and burned the edges to bring more focus on Vanessa. I also played with the contrast, hue, and saturation.
Photgraph by Megan.

3/25/10

My greek myth was Athena. In the story, Athena was said to be the guarder of the city because she planted the first olive tree, and the people respected her for that.
I had her stand in front of the city to represent that, and in front of the water to represent Poseidan because she had fights with Poseidan. She was also an expert at spinning and weaving, and the necklace represents weaving. Athena was also said to be very pure and innocent, so the white dress represents that.

Announcing Paige (by Danielle).

3/23/10

Photograph by Jake.
I like this picture mainly because of the detail. His shirt gives a great sense of texture and also there are very light shadows cast all over him. I think this is a good representation of Danny mainly because of the confused look on his face. Danny is a very smart kid, but always has a confused and carefree look on his face. I blurred the background severely and erased his lips and eyes to get them to pop out more.

3/22/10

This picture is of Kassie, and I took it right in front of the lake so thats the white of her shirt would go with the snow and blue in her eyes with the blue sky. The first thing I did to this picture was clone stamp out a bar that was right on the side of her head. I also applied a light blue neon glow which I think helped the shows in her face stand out more. I burned her pupils and dodged her eyes to make them stand out more. I also dodged some of her hair to make certain strands stick out more. I applied who gassian blurs, and first one was of just the background. The second one I applied I only erased her eyes, lips, and some of her hair.

Sarah created this green photo. This is my St. Patty's photo. I really like the raindrops on the plants, it adds detail and uniqueness. I desaturated the background and then erased the green plants so they stood out, and then i did the lomo effect on it.

I chose to do happy for my first mood photo. I took my friend to a really haggard barn near my house thinking I wasn't going to get good photos because the weather was horrible. The sun did decided to come out and I got great lighting. I positioned my friend in a tree so the sun would light her face up. In photoshop, I just enhanced her eyes.
Thanks Morgan!

Happy St Pat's Day!

When I was told we had to do an assignment for St. Patrick's day I instantly remembered that I had these cheesy green clover sunglasses. To change this photo I clone stamped the backgroung because it had a doorway that was very distracting. Then I did a blur overlay and sharpened the picture.

(Thanks Amanda!)

3/15/10

For this portrait, I used an ISO of 200 and a cloudy white balance. In photoshop I blurred the background slightly and made the rock and the subject clear. Rembrandt lighting was used on his face. In iphoto, I boosted the color a little. I also copied sticks and trees from the background as a border for my photo.

I liked this picture because of her genuine smile and the light that was reflecting in to her eyes. I had to adjust the exposure in this as well because the window was still the whitest thing in the picture. I adjusted the blacks in her sweater, and I just really like this picture.
